GW Defeats Monarchs, 6-3

NORFOLK, VA--Freshman righthander Brian Frazier scattered nine hits andwent the distance as George Washington (3-2) defeated the Monarchs, 6-3, ending ODU's two-game winning streak. Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) led ODU with two hits and two runs batted in.

The Colonials took a 2-0 lead as Ryan Roberson hit a solo homerun to left fieldto lead off the second inning. In the third Tom Shanley singled home Geoff Milsom.

ODU rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the third as Eric Mesa scored on a double play. Cipolla then doubled home Steve Harris (Virginia Beach, VA.) and Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) who both reached on two out hits.

In the fifth, with the bases loaded Brad Rosenblat lined out to Chipman inleft, scoring Joe Michalski. Roberson then singled home Shanley and Michael Parkerto give GW a 5-3 lead. The Colonials added a run in the ninth inning as Michalskiscored while teammate Shanley was caught in a run down on a double steal attempt. Frazier finished with seven strikeouts, no walks and all three runs were unearned.

Chipman and Cipolla each had two hits for ODU. ODU hits the road on Wednesday to play Virginia at 3:00 p.m.
