ODU Tops UNCW 74-63, Now 21-3

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Alex Loughton scored a game-high 18 points to liftOld Dominion past North Carolina-Wilmington 74-63 Saturday in a ColonialAthletic Association matchup.

Kiah Thomas added 16 points, including 11-of-12 at the line, and IsaiahHunter posted 12 points for the Monarchs (21-3, 11-1). Loughton added sixrebounds.

Halston Lane scored 18 points and Mitch Laue had 12 points off the bench forthe Seahawks (14-7, 9-2), who's four-game winning streak was snapped.

Hunter made a 3-pointer with 46 seconds left in the first half to put OldDominion up 35-31 at the break.

The Seahawks closed the gap to two points early in the second half when Lanenetted a 3-pointer with 17:39 remaining.

The Monarchs then scored eight unanswered points to push the margin to 10points, with Brian Henderson's 3-pointer giving the Monarchs a 46-36 cushionwith 16:08 left.

Lane hit the first of two free throws on a technical foul assessed toHunter, but the Monarchs added five points on a 3-pointer by Valdas Vasyliusand a layup by Loughton to complete a 13-1 run and give the Monarchs controlthe rest of the way.

Not only did Loughton finish with 18 points, he completed three gamesthis week with 59 points, and 28 rebounds in ODU's wins over Drexel,Towson and UNCW.

ODU shot 50 percent (8-16) from three point range as six differentMonarchs hit atleas one trey. Hunter was 3-5 on the day to go alongwith his game high eight rebounds. ODU has now beaten the Seahawksthree straight times in Wilmington, and six times overall in a row.

On the defensive end, ODU shut down UNCW, holding the Seahawks to5-25 shooting from three-point range and .338 shooting from the floor.The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they travel toNewark, DE. to take on the Blue Hens of the University of Delaware at7:30 p.m.
