BALTIMORE, Md. -- Sue Stahl, coach of the United States Women's Lacrosse Team and the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs, has announced that 34 players have advanced to the final round of tryouts for the U.S. Team for the 2005 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations World Cup. Among those making the cut was all-time Lady Monarch leading scorer Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, Pa.), a member of the Old Dominion women's lacrosse team from 2000-2004.
The most recent tryout took place the weekend of Nov. 20-21 in Norfolk, Va. The 24-member World Cup Training Team will be selected following tryouts on Jan. 22-23 in Orlando, Fla.
Old Dominion's most prolific scorer in history, Wosczyna is Lady Monarchs' all-time leader in points (325), goals (206), and assists (119). She was also the first ever CAA women's lacrosse player to earn First Team All-CAA honors throughout her entire career.
A two-time member of the U.S. Developmental Squad, Wosczyna is the only Lady Monarch to earn All-America honor three times during a career. She earned Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2002 and Third Team honors as a junior in 2003 and a senior in 2004.
As a senior Wosczyna ranked third in points per game (5.2), seventh in goals per game (3.33), and seventh (1.87) in assists per game nationally. Additionally, she was one of among 24 student-athletes that were selected to represent the "south" roster at the prestigious North/South Senior All-Star game.
The 2005 IFWLA World Cup, featuring a record 10 countries, will be hosted by US Lacrosse from June 23 to July 2 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
