JOHNSTOWN, PA  -The Old Dominion wrestling team went 1-1 in duals action Friday night at the Pittsburgh-Johnstown tri-meet in Johnstown, PA. The Monarchs defeated Delaware Valley College 29-16 and suffered a 39-9 defeat to Pitts-Johnstown. The Monarchs are 1-1 for the season in duals.

In the Monarch's first dual against Pitts-Johnstown, Redshirt Sophomore Christian Staylor (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge/125) defeated Ryan Mazzocco by a fall in just 50 seconds to hand ODU a quick 6-0 lead. Freshman B.J. Compton (Christiansburg, VA/133) lost a 6-2 decision to Brandon Reasy to cut the Monarch lead to 6-3. The Mountain Cat's Thad Benton then pinned Junior Shanon Slack (Richmond, VA/141) at the 4:33 mark to take the 9-6 lead over ODU. Ryan Ickes increased the lead with a 10-8 decision over freshman Hunter Davenport (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge/149), taking a 12-6 lead.

A fall by Matt Roncolato at the 3:24 mark over redshirt freshman Nick Pullano (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge/157), a 3-0 decision by Albert Miles over freshman James Conyers (Chesapeake, VA/Western Branch/165), and a fall by Eli Garshnick at the 4:37 mark over senior John Adams (Chesapeake, VA/Deep Creek/174) extended the Pitts-Johnstown lead to 27-6. Junior Adam Wright (Dayton, VA/184) got the Monarchs on the board with a 6-2 decision over Mike Corcetti to cut the deficit to 27-9, but a fall by Mike Fowler at the 2:53 mark over freshman Andrew Jordan (Newark, DE/197) at the 2:53 mark and a fall by Howard Bell over freshman Alec Eaton (Westminster, MD/Hwt.) at the 3:51 mark gave the Mountain Cats the 39-9 victory.

In ODU's second dual, against the Aggies of Delaware Valley College, freshman Selas Douglas (Lorton, VA) got the Monarchs on the board first with a 14-6 major decision over Ryan Finkbiner to take a 4-0 lead. B.J. Compton extended the lead to 7-0 with a 11-5 decision over Barry Wise, Jr. and Shanon Slack further extended the lead to 10-0 with a 6-3 decision over Tom Becker. A 21-11 major decision by Hunter Davenport over Rob Jiminez and a fall at the 1:22 mark by Nick Pullano gave ODU a 20-0 lead.

Delaware Valley College got on the board when Jason Shivak pinned James Conyers at the 2:08 mark to cut the lead to 20-6. John Adams earned a 12-1 major decision over Chuck Faulkner to extend the ODU lead to 24-6 and Adam Wright earned a tech fall (22-5; 5:32) to make the score 29-6. The Aggie's Jamall Johnson defeated Andrew Jordan by a 17-6 major decision to cut the lead to 29-10 and Mike Moore pinned Alec Eaton at the 2:19 mark to make the final score 29-16.

The Monarchs will return to action December 29-30 when they travel to both the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, NC and the Midlands in Evanston, IL.
