NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion women's basketball center Corrina Turner (Miami, Fla.) has elected to receive surgery on her left knee after suffering a tear in her anterior cruciate ligament during the Lady Monarchs' season opener at Georgia Tech on November 23rd. In the meantime, she will complete her degree in communications this December with in the intention of continuing with a post-graduate degree in the spring.
"Everything happens for a reason," said Turner. "I'm going to keep my spirits up. I hope to rejoin the team on the court as soon as possible. In the meantime, I will continue to support my team in whatever way possible."
The 6-6 center from Miami, Florida has been a member of the Lady Monarchs since the Fall of 2000. During her career she has averaged 6.8 points and 7.0 rebounds. During Old Dominion's run to the "Elite Eight" in 2002, Turner's first full season, she made 25 starts averaging 6.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Turner has suffered two torn ACL's in her right knee, the first occurring after six games in her first season with Old Dominion in 2000 and the second right before the start of the preseason in 2001. She originally tore her left ACL right after the start of preseason practice for the 2003-04 season.
Turner will undergo surgery on December 15th.
