NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team ended the exhibition part of their schedule on Sunday afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center with an 86-43 victory over Team Concept. Sophomore forward Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) led five Lady Monarchs in double figures with a 16-point, 12-rebound effort. Triggs shot 8-of-10 from the field, dished out four assists, collected four steals, and blocked two shots.
Rookie T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) led the way with 10 of her game-high 17 points from behind the three-point arc. Junior guard Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) poured in 12 points, while sophomore Tish Lyons (Newport News, Va.) and freshman Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) had 10 points apiece.
Team Concept's LaTasha Shipman led her squad with 11 points from off the bench.
Old Dominion shot 43.4 percent from the field, while holding Team Concept to just 32.1 percent from the floor. The opponent shot just 29.0 percent in the second-half.
On the boards, the Lady Monarchs outrebounded Team Concept, 53-32. The Lady Monarchs were led by Triggs, while sophomore center Corrina Turner (Miami, Fla.) grabbed eight rebounds, and Davis and freshman Megan Pym (Newfield, N.Y.) each grabbed six.
The Lady Monarchs held a 42-17 advantage at the half. Leading 23-11 with 8:20 left in the first half, Old Dominion put the game out of reach with a 17-2 run and led by 25 points or more the rest of the way.
The Old Dominion women's basketball team returns to action in their 2004-05 season opener. The Lady Monarchs travel to Atlanta, Georgia to face Georgia Tech at the Alexandar Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday, November 23rd at 6:00 p.m. Last season, Old Dominion defeated the Yellow Jackets, 67-56, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center behind Shareese Grant's (Va. Beach, Va.) career-high 26 points.
