Walters Signs With Lady Monarchs

NORFOLK, Va. (November 12, 2004) -- Jazzmin Walters, a 5-2 guard from Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk, Virginia, has signed a national letter of intent to play women's basketball at Old Dominion it was announced by Lady Monarch head coach Wendy Larry.

Walters averaged 19.9 points, seven assists, and six steals as a junior, leading her school to a 20-4 record and an appearance in the East Region quarterfinals. To date, she has accumulated 1,286 career points and scored in double figures in each of her 24 appearances last season. Additionally, she also earned Eastern District Defensive Player of the Year, a First Team All-Eastern District, Street & Smith Honorable Mention All-America, and AP Second Team All-State honors.

Walters was ranked 87th in the Blue Star Report of the country's Top 100 senior high school women's basketball athletes. She also attended the Nike All-America Camp and was a Co-MVP at the End of the Trail Tournament, an all-star event in Oregon.

A three-sport standout in basketball, volleyball, and track, Walters earned Eastern District Player of the Year and First Team All-Eastern District honors in volleyball as well.

Walters becomes the fifth student-athlete to sign with Old Dominion from the Hampton Roads area in the last three seasons. She joins T.J. Jordan (Wilson H.S. - Portsmouth), Tiffany Green (Indian River H.S.- Chesapeake), Jen Nuzzo (Woodside H.S. - Newport News), and Tish Lyons (Woodside H.S. - Newport News) who have joined the Lady Monarch family over the last two years.
