Lady Monarchs Favored To Repeat As CAA Women's Basketball Champions

Nov. 9, 2004

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team received votes in the Preseason Associated Press (AP) Poll released on Tuesday. Old Dominion, favorites to capture a 14th straight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title and who play the fourth strongest non-conference schedule in the country, also received votes in the ESPN/USA Today/WBCA Preseason Coaches Poll released last week.

The Lady Monarchs have one more preseason test before the 2004-05 season officially begins at Georgia Tech on November 23rd. Old Dominion hosts Team Concept in its final exhibition test on Sunday, November 14th at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Monarchs already picked up a preseason win with an 88-60 victory over the Dutch National Team.

In the AP, four Lady Monarch opponents are ranked in the Top 25 while two others are receiving votes. Tennessee, an annual ODU rival, topped the poll, while North Carolina appears at No. 9, Rutgers at No. 17, and Penn State at No. 21. Virginia Tech and Virginia were the two schools receiving votes.
