The Monarchs are 13-18-8 all-time against William & Mary, with 2003's game ending in a 1-1 tie in Williamsburg. William & Mary played their final home regular season game Wednesday night, battling Virginia Tech to a scoreless tie. The highlight of their season to date is knocking off #1 Maryland 1-0 in double-overtime at Albert-Daly Field. Playing a tough national schedule, William & Mary has also played ranked teams in #22 VCU and #9 JMU, as well as perennial power North Carolina. Senior Forward Brannon Thomas leads the Tribe in scoring with 11 points (three goals, five assists). Sophomore Goalkeeper Kris Rake has a 0.84 Goals Against Average, allowing only 16 goals in 18 games this season.
The Monarchs hope to extend their home unbeaten streak this weekend (the current streak is 24 games, including 20 consecutive wins), in an attempt to take the #2 seed in the CAA Tournament. If James Madison loses or ties Friday night against George Mason and the Monarchs win tomorrow night, ODU will take the #2 seed and have a first round bye in next week's CAA Tournament. The Monarchs can fall to as low as a #5 seed this weekend.
ODU last played at Virginia last Wednesday, dropping a 4-1 decision. Sophomore Forward Ross Mackenzie (Richmond, VA) scored the lone Monarch goal, in the 79th minute of the game, off a Penalty Kick. The Monarchs are 5-0-1 in their last six CAA games. Senior Midfielder Kevon Harris (Kingston, Jamaica) leads all Monarch scorers with 16 points (six goals, four assists). Junior Forward Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) is second with 10 points (four goals, two assists). Goalkeeper John Connelly (Rockville, MD) has a 1.04 Goals Against Average, allowing only 17 goals in 16 games.
