NEWARK, DE -Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY) scored the game-winning goal three minutes into the second overtime period to lift the Old Dominion men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Delaware Saturday night at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. Elcock also scored the first goal for the Monarchs, as ODU improves to 8-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware falls to 3-9-1 overall and 0-5 in the CAA.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
After a scoreless first half, Edson Elcock gave the Monarchs a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute, from a Kevin McMenamin (West Springfield, VA) cross from just outside the box. Moments after that, Kyle Hartley (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) scored to give ODU the 2-0 lead. Sobhan Tadjalli got the Blue Hens on the board when he connected on a penalty kick in the 77th minute, to cut the ODU lead to 2-1. Tadjalli scored again before the end of regulation to tie the game at 2-2. In the second overtime period, Elcock scored his second goal of the game to lift the Monarchs past Delaware 3-2.
For the game, ODU out-shot Delaware 14-12, while the Blue Hens had the 9-4 corner kicks edge.
The Monarchs return home next weekend, when they host James Madison on Friday, October 22, and George Mason Sunday, October 24.
