RICHMOND, VA -The #12 Old Dominion men's soccer team dropped to 0-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, with a 3-1 loss to #22 Virginia Commonwealth Sunday afternoon at the Sports Backers Stadium. David Horst (Pine Grove, PA) scored the lone Monarch goal, as the Monarchs fall to 5-3-1 for the season. VCU, undefeated in their last six games, is 6-2-1 and 2-0 in the CAA.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
VCU got on the board in the 11th minute of the game, when Gonzalo Segares scored off a Stephen Shirley assist. Mike Aust extended the Rams lead in the 41st minute as VCU took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, David Horst, coming off the bench, scored a goal for the Monarchs, to cut the VCU lead to 2-1. The Rams answered back in the 57th minute, when Ricardo Opoku scored off a Brian Morris feed to take a 3-1 lead.
The Rams had a 16-13 shots advantage for the game, and a 9-2 corner kicks edge.
ODU returns home next weekend, when they host Drexel Friday, October 8, at 7:00, and Hofstra Sunday, October 10, at 1:00.
