TOWSON, MD -The Old Dominion women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Towson Friday evening in Towson, MD, to open up Colonial Athletic Association play. Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) and Heather Vaughan (Virginia Beach, VA/Princess Anne) both scored for the Lady Monarchs, as they fall to 3-4-1 for the season, 0-1 in the CAA. Towson improves to 4-4 and 1-0 in conference action.
Towson took an early 1-0 lead, at the 7:00 minute mark, when Brittany Wilson scored off a Shannon Jackson assist. The Lady Monarchs answered back nearly 13 minutes later, when Laura Beeman scored an unassisted goal to tie the game 1-1. The Tigers struck back at the 34:44 mark, when Lauren Windsor scored an unassisted goal, to take the 2-1 lead. In the second half, Heather Vaughan scored for the Lady Monarchs, off a Bea Gugliotti (Avon, CT) assist, to tie the game at 2-2. The Tigers took the lead for good, though, at the 76:33 mark, when Jen Van Horn scored off a Shannon Jackson assist.
For the game, ODU out-shot Towson 16-13, while Towson had a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) made four saves and allowed three goals during the game.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Sunday afternoon, when they at Delaware at 1:00.
