NORFOLK, VA- Beth Anders, the nation's winningest collegiate field hockeycoach announced today that she will return as head coach of the Old Dominion University field hockey program.

"It's great to have Beth back home with our program," said Jim Jarrett,athletic director. "She did an outstanding job with Team USA."

Anders was granted leave to assume the United States NationalField Hockey team head coaching position in its attempt to qualify for the 2004 OlympicGames in Athens, Greece. Team USA missed qualifying by one match. Recently Andersled the USA to the finals of the Pan Am Cup.

"I am glad to be home and extremely happy to be returning to Old DominionUniversity," said Anders. "I am looking forward to getting back with the program forthe upcoming season."

Since coming to ODU in 1980, Anders has compiled a 429-64-7 (.865) record. The Lady Monarchs have won nine national championships and the CAA crown 10 of 11 years. She was named National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2000, and has been the CAA Coach of the Year seven times. Last season, the Lady Monarchs captured their 12th CAA title and advanced to the NCAA regional final under assistant coach Sue Myers.

The Lady Monarchs open the 2004 fall season on Aug. 28 at Penn State.
