HARRISONBURG, Va. - Old Dominion senior midfielder Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, Pa.) was named a First Team All-CAA selection it was announced Friday evening at the CAA women's lacrosse pre-championship banquet in Harrisonburg, Va.
James Madison senior midfielder Gail Decker was named the 2004 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year in women's lacrosse by a vote of the league's eight head coaches. Joining Decker as major award winners were Hofstra junior Bridget Eder, who was named Defensive Player of the Year, Pride freshman Kim Hillier, who was selected Rookie of the Year, and Towson head coach Missy Holmes, who was tabbed CAA Coach of the Year.
Wosczyna, Old Dominion's all-time leader in points (325), goals (206), and assists (119), becomes the first ever CAA women's lacrosse player to earn First Team All-CAA honors throughout her entire career. This season, she led the team in scoring with 57 goals, 28 assists, and 85 points in 16 games. The senior midfielder earned at least one point inevery contest this season including 12 multiple scoring efforts.
In addition to her scoring prowess, Woscyna was among the leaders on her squad in groundballs (44), draw controls (42), and caused turnovers (23).
On the national level, Wosczyna ranks third in points per game (5.2), ninth in goals per game (3.33), and sixth (1.87) in assists per game. Additionally, she is 14th in the nation in draw controls averaging 2.8 per game.
Wosczyna wrapped up her stellar career at Old Dominion this past week by leading Old Dominion to a 9-8 victory over Rutgers University, scoring seven goals including the game-winner with just over one minute remaining in the game. Last week, she helped the Lady Monarchs snap an eight-game losing streak with a 13-12 victory over #17 William & Mary, connecting on the game-winner with 11 seconds left in regulation. For her efforts against the Tribe she was named Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week.
