NEWARK, DE-- Outfielder Dave Harden singled home Steve Van Note in the bottom ofthe ninth inning as the University of Delaware (16-15/2-6) defeated Old Dominion(14-22/4-8), 5-4 in a Colonial Athletic Association game Sunday afternoon.
ODU took a 2-0 lead in the third as Keith Hahn doubled home freshman catcherTyler Belcher. Hahn then scored when Allen Strick was caught in a run down tryingto steal second.
UD scored n the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Todd Davison. Davisoncame back in the fifth to score the tying run on a wild pitch. The Blue Hens tookthe lead in the seventh on a two-run double by Kelly Buber.
The Monarchs fought back in the eighth with a run when Steven Harris singled homeAllen Strick. ODU tied the game in the top of the ninth as Keith Hahn scored onBrandon Carter's two-out single.
ODU also threatened in the sixth inning with runners at first and second. DanaArrowood singled but Brandon Carter was thrown out at the plate by leftfielderEd McDonnell.
Carter, Harris, Derek James and Arrowood each had two hits on the day. KeithHahn scored two of ODU's four runs. The Monarchs return to action on Wednesdayafternoon when they travel to the University of Richmond.
