NORFOLK, VA-Senior Matt Prendergast tossed a complete game five hitter tolead the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth(21-13/7-2) to a 5-1 Colonial Athletic Association win over Old Dominion (13-19/3-6) Sunday after noon.
The Monarchs scored first as Brandon Carter (Sacramento, CA.) doubled withtwo outs and scored on Stephen Harris' (Va. Beach, Va.-Kellam HS) single in the firstinning. Both Carter and Harris had two hits on the day.
VCU came back in the second when Barrett Ripley hit a solo homer to rightfield.In the third inning, Joe Meador led off with a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly byAnthony Granato. In the seventh inning, Meador, Scott Sizemore, and Granato each hadrun scoring singles to give the Rams a 5-1 lead.
Prendergast completes his second game of the season and runs his record to 7-0.He fanned four and walked only one batter. In the sixth inning, Carter and Harris singledwith two outs for the Monarchs, but Prendergast forced a groundout to retire the side.
ODU travels to Duke on Tuesday, then returns home to play Richmond Wednesday night.
