NORFOLK, VA-The Flames of Liberty University used 11 hits led by PhillipLaurent and Jeff Brown to defeat the Old Dominion University Monarchs, 8-4 Wednesday Night at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. ODU is now 10-11, Libertyis 11-10.
Brown doubled home a run in the first and one in Liberty's five-run fifth. LaurentLaurent singled both Jeremiah Boles and Ryan Engelhardt. Laurent finished the eveningwith three hits and three runs scored.
In the third inning, Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) scored on a throwing error, while in the fourth freshman catcher Tyler Belcher (Bristol,VA.) singled home Steven Harris (Va. Beach, VA.). The Monarchs added a run in the six as Brandon Carter came home when Liberty missed pick-off attempt at first on Harris. Joe Moore (Woodbridge, VA.) scored ODU's final run in the ninth on a throwing error.
Michael Schaeffer picked up the win for the Flames, his second of the season.Liberty travels to Charleston Southern on March 26 for a Big South series, while theMonarchs host Towson in a three-game CAA series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.
