ODU Beats The Citadel, 8-5 in Record Tying 15 Innings

CHARLESTON, SC-Freshman firstbaseman Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) and junior outfielder Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC) knocked in runs in the top of the 15thinning to give ODU an 8-6 victory over The Citadel in the final day of the HomewoodSuites Baseball Shootout. This ties for the longest game in ODU history as the Monarchsare now 3-3.

With the score tied at six, Dana Arrowood, the winning pitcher led off with a single. After being sacrificed to second, Cipolla singled to rightfield, scoring Arrowood.Steven Harris then singled to put runners on the corners and Allen Strick walked to loadthe bases. Evan Chipman reached on a fielder's choice and Cipolla scored from third togive ODU an 8-6 lead.

In the bottom of the 15th Arrowood put the Bulldogs down in order to pick uphis second win of the season. He also slammed a solo home run in the second inning.Arrowood pitched four innings, allowed just one hit, and fanned five. Donnie Smithrelieved Ricky Shefka in the seventh and fanned five, allowing only one run.

Both Cipolla and Chipman knocked in two runs on the day, while six Monarchshad two hits each. Matt Matulia knocked in two runs on two hits for the Citadel.

This joins 1989 games against VCU and Clemson as the most innings played in ODUbaseball history. The Monarchs return to action on Tuesday when they host Radford at 3 p.m.
