NORFOLK, VA-Junior catcher Kenneth Gram (Tempe, AZ) knocked in four runs to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion University to a 8-6 victory over NavySunday afternoon. ODU is now 2-1, Navy is 1-4.
The 6-6 Gram plated Ricky Shefka (Kinston, NC) on a groundout in the second inning. He singled home Shefka in the fifth and doubled home Shefka and freshmanBrian Cipolla ( Plainview, NY) in the seventh. Shefka, a sophomore scored four times, came up with two hits and one run batted in. Cipolla also had two hits on the day.
Sophomore pitcher Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) picked up the win inrelief. He fanned two and allowed two hits in two-plus innings of work.
Navy scored three runs in the second and ninth innings. In the second RyanMcGinn, Dominic Lopez and Pete Curnow each had RBI singles. In the ninth pinchhitter Trevor Thompson singled home two runs.
ODU returns to action on Tuesday when they host Radford at 3 p.m.
