BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Isaiah Hunter made two free throws with 17 secondsleft in overtime on Thursday night to lead Old Dominion over Virginia Tech94-92. The win was ODU's first ever at Cassell Coliseum.
The Monarchs (1-2) missed two free throws with six seconds left in overtime,and the Hokies rebounded and pushed the ball up the court for a last secondshot. Jamon Gordon's jumper missed with two seconds left, and the tip-inattempt by Mykhael Lattimore at the buzzer would not go in for Virginia Tech.
Gordon made a jumper with eight seconds left in overtime to pull the Hokies(3-2) within two 94-92. Virginia Tech fouled to stop the clock, but theMonarchs made seven of eight free throws in overtime.
After two free throws by Zabian Dowdell gave Virginia Tech an 85-82 leadwith seven seconds left in regulation, Troy Nance made a 3-pointer at thebuzzer to send the game into overtime.
Hunter scored 21 points for the Monarchs, who led at the half 42-37. JohnWaller had 18 points, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc. The Monarchshit 31-36 free throws on the night led by Alex Loughton(7-8) and IsaiahHunter (6-6). John Waller led ODU with sevond rebounds, followed by ArnaudDahi and Valdas Vasylius with six each.
Bryant Matthews led the Hokies with 37 points and grabbed 12 rebounds andGordon added 18 points and nine boards.
ODU hosts Charlotte at 7 p.m. Saturday night in the Ted Constant ConvocationCenter.
