Charlottesville, VA--Old Dominion senior midfielder Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) wasselected as the 2003 Virginia Field Hockey Player of the Year in votingby the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association, while her classmate Melissa Leonetti (Erdeheim, PA) earned All-State honors as well.

Loy, who led the Monarchs to an eighth consecutive CAA title and 23rdconsecutive bid to the national tournament, earned first-teamAll-American honors from both the NFHCA and womensfieldhockey.com forthe second consecutive season. Loy, the CAA Player of the Year andCAA Tournament MVP, ranked second nationally with 69 points, 2.875points per game, and 21 assists.

Loy was named to the USA Field Hockey National Team roster on Dec. 8 as the US continuespreparations for the Olympic Qualifying tournament, which will take place in March of 2004. Loy was also a member of the VaSID All-State field hockey team in 2002.

Loy's teammate Melissa Leonetti was also named to the team, the second consecutive year Leonetti was so honored. Leonetti was named the CAA Defender of the Year and ended her senior season with three goals, a team-second best 12 assists, and 18 total points. Defensively, Leonetti helped her Lady Monarch teams to shutouts over conference rivals William & Mary, Delaware, James Madison, Hofstra, and Towson. For her career, Leonetti amassed 14 goals, 38 assists, and 66 points. She was named a Second Team All-American and was a First Team All-CAA selection.
