NORFOLK, VA - Sophomore forward Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) scored on a break away pass from senior Diane Baucom (Virginia Beach, VA) to defeat Virginia Commonwealth, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Stadium. The win moves Old Dominion to 3-8-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Rams drop to 7-5-3 overall and 2-1-3 CAA. Beeman has accounted for eight of ODU's 12 goals for the season.
The match was tied at zero going into the second half until Baucom found Beeman-who had broken away from defenders- for the score with seven minutes to play. Senior goalkeeper Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, VA) recorded four saves for the contests and had her second consecutive shutout. The Lady Monarchs are 2-1-1 since Bailey has taken over the nets. VCU goalkeeper Chrissy Lloyd also had four saves in the loss.
The Lady Monarchs will be back in action when they resume CAA play against William & Mary Wednesday at the ODU Soccer Stadium. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
