PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Old Dominion women's soccer team earned their first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season, defeating Drexel 2-1 in overtime Saturday afternoon. Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) scored first for ODU, in the 62nd minute of the game, but Drexel's Stacey Blevins scored just over four minutes later to tie the game up. In overtime, Shibaughn Stevens (Penfield, NY) scored in the 96th minute to give ODU the win. ODU improves to 2-7-3 on the season and 1-3-1 in CAA play, while Drexel falls to 3-11 and 0-5 in the CAA.
The game was scoreless in the first half and remained scoreless until Laura Beeman scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season. She was assisted by Diane Baucom (Virginia Beach, VA). Shibaughn Stevens scored her first goal of the season in the overtime period. Ten of the Lady Monarchs' 12 games this season have now been decided by one goal or less. For the game, ODU's goalkeeper Kristen Bailey made four saves and allowed one goal, while Drexel's Melissa Stuhler made eight saves and allowed two goals. ODU out-shot Drexel 18-10 for the game.
ODU continues CAA play Monday, October 20 against Hofstra. Game time is at 2:30 PM.
