Virginia Tech Blanks Lady Monarchs, 2-0

NORFOLK, Va.- The Old Dominion women's soccer team were defeated by Virginia Tech, 2-0, Sunday evening at the ODU Soccer Stadium in non-conference action. The loss drops the Lady Monarchs to 1-6-3 overall, as they remain 0-4-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The win moves Virginia Tech to 8-6.

Virginia Tech forward Ryan Johnson provided the spark off the bench, scoring off a give-and-go pass from Heather Pearson that netted in the right corner of the goal with four minutes remaining in the half. Virginia Tech's defense played strong, allowing only one Old Dominion shot in the first half while firing off four shot themselves. ODU junior goal keeper Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) recorded all three of her saves in the first half.

In the second half, Tech's Emily Barnhart added another goal in the 52nd minute to give the visiting team the 2-0 victory. Lady Hokies goalie Mallory Soldner recorded five saves for the contest. Reserve goalie Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, VA) earned one save in 34 minutes of action for Old Dominion.

The Lady Monarchs will travel to Maryland Wednesday, October 15 to take on UMBC in non-conference play.
