NORFOLK, VA - The second-ranked Monarchs allowed their first goal of the season, but still emerged victorious over Virginia Commonwealth University at home Sunday. Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) scored twice for the Monarchs in the second half. VCU's Matthew Delicate scored a goal for the Rams in the first half. ODU remains the only undefeated team in Division I with a 10-0-0 record, 2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. VCU drops to 8-4-0, with a 3-1 CAA record.

VCU struck first in the game, with a goal by Matthew Delicate from a Wes Reed assist 19:30 into the game. The goal ended ODU's nine game shut-out streak and put the Monarchs down for the first time this season. Both teams went into the half with VCU up 1-0.

In the second half, Brian Cvilikas scored his fourth and fifth goals of the year within seven minutes of each other to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead, which became the final score. For the game, Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC) saved three shots and allowed one goal. For the Rams, Saul Montero allowed two goals and made five saves. VCU out-shot ODU 11-8, and the Rams had five penalty corners compared with the Monarchs' two. The Monarchs next play Friday, October 17 at Drexel and then travel to Hofstra Saturday, October 18. The two game will be the Monarchs' first CAA road games of the season.
