NORFOLK, VA- Delaware's Caryn Blood scored in the 56th minute to down the Old Dominion women's soccer team, 1-0, Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Lady Monarchs to 1-5-3 overall and 0-3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The win moves Delaware to 6-3-2 overall, 2-1-1 CAA. Eight of the last nine Lady Monarch contests have been decided by one goal or less.
ODU and Delaware played to a stalemate in the first half, with neither team being able to get an advantage. Old Dominion allowed only one Delaware shot, while attempting just two shots on goal themselves.
In the second half, both teams came out pressuring the defense. Midfielder Caryn Blood scored Delaware's lone goal with 35 minutes left that netted in the right corner of the goal. The goal was Blood's fourth of the year. Old Dominion had their best opportunity to tie the game when Sophomore Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) missed a shot wide right with just two minutes left in the game.
Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) recorded one save on five shots. Delaware's Andrea Lunn had three saves on eight shots.
The Lady Monarchs will be back in action Sunday, October 12 when they host Virginia Tech at the ODU Soccer Stadium at 3 p.m.
