FAIRFAX, VA- Sophomore Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) scored an early goal for Old Dominion, as the women's soccer team tied George Mason Sunday afternoon in Fairfax, VA. The tie is the Lady Monarchs third in their last four contests and moves their record to 1-3-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Conference. The Patriots fall to 4-2-3 overall (1-0-1 CAA). The Lady Monarchs have played four overtime matches this year.
Old Dominion struck early, scoring on a penalty kick by Beeman just 1:15 into the match. The goal was Beeman's fifth of the year. Junior goal keeper Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) played solidly in the first half, stopping all five of George Mason's shots.
In the second half, the Patriot's Amy Alecci scored a goal in the 50th minute to give her team the eventual 1-1 tie. The Patriot's defense allowed only one Old Dominon shot in the second half and two overtime periods and outshot the Lady Monarchs 22-5 for the match. Miller recorded eight saves for the contest, while George Mason's goalie, Sarah Coughlin, had one save.
The Lady Monarchs will be back in action Friday as the take on Towson at the ODU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
