NORFOLK, VA. - Seniors Brandon LeNoir (Ocala, FL.). and John Oehler (Audubon, NJ ).each singled in a run in the eighth inning to give the Monarchs of Old Dominion University a 7-5 victory over the Duke Blue Devils Monday night at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

With Duke leading 5-4 in the seventh, ODU tied the game on Gary Lowther's(Union City, CA.) sacrifice fly which plated LeNoir. In the eighth DeMarquee Hairston (Martinsville, VA.) led off with a triple, then scored on LeNoir's single. LeNoir later scored on Oehler's hit.

Duke scored in the first inning as Brian Patrick's sacrifice fly scored Javier Socorro.In the second inning Senterrio Landrum singled in Grant Stanley to go up, 2-0. ODU'sBrent Sollenberger hit his first homerun of the season to make it 2-1.

Duke scored two more runs in the fourth as Socorro singled in Michael Golomand Landrum with two outs to take a 4-1 lead. ODU tied the game in the fifth as BrandonLeNoir hit his third homer of the season with Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA.) aboard, then Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.)doubled and scored on Pedro Pena's(Haverhill, MA) single. Duke took a 5-4 lead in the sixth with two outs, as Landrum tripled and scored on an ODU error.

Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) picked up the win in relief, his second of the year. For the fourth straight game, ODU banged out ten or more hits. LeNoir led with five and three runs batted in. The Monarchs travel to James Madison for a three-game CAA series beginning Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. Duke hosts Florida State Thursday evening at 7 p.m.

RICKY SHEFKA NAMED CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Freshman righthander RickyShefka(Kinston, NC.) earned the honor for the second time this year. He allowed Towson onlyone run on six hits in ODU's 6-1 victory last Saturday. Shefka is 3-3 in CAA games, 6-7 overall.
