NORFOLK, VA - Head Coach Alan Dawson has announced that John McClain (Denver, Colorado) and Justin Monroe (Disputanta, VA) have signed a national letter of intent to join the Old Dominion men's soccer program for the upcoming 2003 season.
McClain and Monroe are the fourth and fifth additions to the Monarchs recruiting class this year. They join previously signed defender Eric Hoglund (Fairfax County, VA), midfielder Gregg Mottinger (Carrollton, TX) and forwards Ross McKenzie(Richmond, VA) and Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, VA).
McClain is a forward out of Mullen High School in Denver, Co. where he was a four-year member of the vasity boys soccer team. In 1999 McClain was named to the Region 4 Pool squad and was awarded the State Cup Most Valuable Player in 2002. A honor roll student throughout his career, McClain is a two-time All-State performer and a three-time All-League selectee. He has also spent four seasons playing on the Olympic Development Program (ODP) team, ODP Pool and a member of the Regional Camp.
Monroe joins ODU after four years of competition at Prince George High School. He was named the Most Valuable Player on offense as a freshman and sophomore. Monroe is also a three-time All-District and two-time All-Region and All-State selection and was also chosen to the All-Metro Team as a junior. Monroe, who will come to the Monarchs as a defender, made the ODP State Team in 2001.
