RICHMOND,VA.-- The CAA Colonial Division leading Rams of Virginia Commonwealthpounded out 13 hits to defeat the Monarchs, 7-3 at The Diamond Saturday afternoon.Junior thirdbaseman Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) led ODU with three hits.
VCU is now 24-7 overall and 6-1 in the CAA, while the Monarchs are 10-18 and1-3 in the CAA.
The Monarchs took a 2-0 lead in the first as Strick singled home Evan Chipman(Raliegh, NC.) and Pedro Pena's(Haverhill, MA.) groundout plated Strick. ODU'sthird and final run came in the fifth as senior Brent Sollenberger's groundoutscored Chipman.
VCU took the lead for good with a four-run outburst in the third inning. TheRams put together five straight hits with one out. The Rams added an unearnedrun in the fifth and single runs in the second and eighth.
Jeff Parrish led VCU with three hits and two runs batted in. Eric Lature,Anthony Granato, and Nick Jones each had two hits for the RAms. LefthanderSean Marshall picked up his fourth win of the year, and Cla Meredith pitchedthe final four innings for the save.
The two teams play again on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Richmond.
