NORFOLK, VA. - The Tribe of William and Mary pounded out 12 hits andthree pitchers scattered six hits to defeat Old Dominion, 5-1 in a Colonial AthleticAssociation game Sunday afternoon. W&M is now 25-15 overall and 8-3 in the CAA,while ODU is 12-25 overall and 3-8 in the CAA.
The first two Tribe runs came with two outs. In the fifth inning Ben Keeton singled homeTerry Revere. In the sixth Kyle Padgett doubled home Trey Wakefield. ODU came backin the bottom of the sixth when Steven Harris(Va.Beach, VA.) singled home Jesse Schoendiest(Belcamp, MA.) to make it,2-1.
In the top of the ninth, William and Mary scored three runs as Michael Brown singled home Terry Revere, Tim Jones groundout scored Ben Keeton, and John Lentz single scoredMichael Brown.
Chris Shaver picked up the win, his four of the year. He pitched the first five innings,allowing only two hits and striking out five. Jeff Dagenhart pitched the next two, and Mark Harris pitched the final two innings and picked up the save.
Steven Harris led ODU with two hits, while Mitch Walk, Tim Jones, Trey Wakefield,and Terry Revere each had two hits for William and Mary. The Tribe returns to action nextweekend at Hofstra, while ODU hosts Liberty on Wednesday night.
