CLEMSON, SC-- Tyler Lumsden outdueled ODU's Justin Verlander (Goochland, VA.)with a three-hit shutout to lead #18 Clemson to a 2-0 victory over the MonarchsFriday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Verlander, a sophomore pre-season All-American fanned six, walked only one ineight innings of work. Lumsden scattered three hits and fanned seven in thecomplete game shutout.
After five scoreless innings, Clemson scored in the sixth as Zane Green led off theinning with a single. Michael Johnson doubled down the rightfield line, movingGreen to third. Green then scored on Brad McCann's sacrifice fly. In the eighth,Clemson scored again as McCann singled home Micheal Johnson.
John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.), Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA.) andBrandon Le Noir(Ocala, FL.) each got a hit for ODU.
The two teams meet again on Saturday at 2 p.m.
