Shefka Pitches Monarchs Over George Mason, 8-2

NORFOLK, VA. - Old Dominion University freshman righthander Ricky Shefka(Kinston, NC.) pitched a complete game eight hitter to lead the Monarchs to a 8-2 Colonial Athletic Association victory over George Mason Saturday night at the Bud Metheny Complex.ODU is now 10-15 overall, 1-1 in the CAA, while GMU is 11-10 overall and 1-1 in the CAA.

Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) had three hits and scored twice for ODU, whileDemarque Hairston (Martinsville, VA.) knocked in two runs and freshman Danna Arrowood(Woodbridge, VA.) knocked in three. Shefka fanned three, walked three in winning hissecond straight game.

George Mason broke up Shefka's bid for a second straight shutout in the eighth asChris Looze, last night's hero for the Patriots slammed a two run homer with Bruce Baldwinaboard.

Arrowood singled home Brent Sollenberger (Chambesburg, PA.) in the third and Hairston and John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) in the sixth innings. Hairston doubled home Keith Hahn (Valley Stream, NY.) and Strick in the sixth.

The Patriots were led by Jeff Palumbo and Looze who each had two hits on the day.The third and final game of the series will be on Sunday at 2 p.m.
