NORFOLK, VA. - Sophomore pre-season All-American Justin Verlander (Goochland, VA.) scattered five hits and fanned eight in eight innings to lead the Monarchs to a 9-2 victory over Brown in game one. The Bears outslugged ODU in game two, 11-8.
Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) broke the game open with a bases loaded triplein the Monarchs five-run eighth inning. Strick Jesse Schoendiest (Belcamp, MD.) andBrandon Le Noir (Ocala, FL.) each had two hits in game one.
In game two Brown jumped out to a 5-2 lead thanks to a two-out grand slam homerunby James Lowe in the third inning. ODU rallied with six runs in the fifth capped by a JohnOehler (Audubon, NJ.) three-run double. The Bears then scored four runs in the sixth thanksto a two-run triple by pinchhitter Eric Larson, then added three more runs in the seventh.
The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
