NORFOLK, VA. - Freshman Ricky Shefka (Kinston, NC. ) and sophomoreJames Burok scattered nine hits and combined for a 8-0 victory over the Bears of BrownFriday afternoon. Shefka fanned a career high eight batters in six innings of work andissued no walks. ODU wins it's second straight to improve to 7-12.
Leading the Monarchs hit parade was junior outfielder Derek James (Terre Haute, IN.)with three hits and two runs batted in. James also scored three times. Senior catcher John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) slammed a two-run homer in ODU's five-run sixth inning. Oehler had three RBI on the day. Senior Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA.) also had two hits on the day forODU.
The shutout was ODU's second of the season. James Burok fanned two in the threeinnings he worked with no walks.
Brown was led by Robert Deeb with three hits, while James Lowe and Cameron Mitchelleach had two hits on the day. Brown loaded the bases in the top of the first inning with twoout, but Shefka pitched his way out of the jam.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m., then a singlegame on Sunday.
