ZEBULON, NC - Nate Cretarolo scattered five hits and reliever Joey Devineworked two hitless innings Saturday as North Carolina State won its 11th straight gamein a row, with a 3-1 decision over ODU at Five County Stadium in the N.C. State Tournament.
The Wolfpack is now 16-4, while ODU drops to 5-12, losing its seventh straight onthis eight-game road trip.
The Monarchs scored first with a run in the top of the second inning. Pedro Penareached on a one-out infield single and Steven Harris walked. John Oehler singled upthe middle to drive in a run.
The Wolfpack rallied as Justin Riley led off the bottom of the second with adouble and scored on Chad Orvella's single. Orvella scored on Marc Maynor's single tomake it 2-1. The Wolfpack's final run came in the bottom of the fourth as Matt Camp singlescored Orvella.
Cretarolo, a junior lefthander picked up the win, while ODU freshman RickyShefka was the hard-luck loser. He pitched five plus-innings, walking five and striking outtwo. ODU will play Oklahoma State Sunday in the final day of the tournament at 2 p.m.in Durham Park.
