NORFOLK, VA.-- The Monarchs (1-2) open the home season this weekend against the ScarletKnights of Rutgers (0-0). The first pitch Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. at theBud Metheny Baseball Complex.
ODU will throw Justin Verlander (Goochland, VA.) on Friday against Rutgers' Jack Egbert.On Saturday freshman Ricky Shefka (Kinston, NC.) will throw against Shaun Parker andon Sunday, the Monarchs will throw James Burok (Archbald, PA.) against Tom Malafonte.
Throught three games, Derrick James (Terre Haute, IN) and Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.)have four hits each, while Jess Schoendiest (Belcamp , MD.) leads the team with threeruns batted in. Freshman Keith Hahn (Vallen Stream, NY.) leads the team in hitting at.500.
Last weekend, ODU defeated Vanderbilt, 2-0 behind the strong pitching of Verlander. ODUlost to last year's World Series runners-up South Carolina, 10-3 and then to Tennessee,5-4.
