HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Five Lady Monarchs scored in double figures as ODU outscored Hofstra, 54-26in the second half for a 99-69 Colonial Athletic Association win Sunday afternoon.The win snapped ODU's three-game losing streak and improved the Lady Monarchs record to12-10 overall and 9-3 in the CAA.
Monique Coker (Bronx, NY.) led ODU with 16 points and nine rebounds. She also came upwith three steals. Kim Giddens (Painter, VA.) and freshman Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie,FL.) scored 14 each, Shareese Grant(Va. Beach, VA.) scored 12 and senior Okiesha Howard(Va. Beach, VA.) came off the bench to score ten.
Grant dished out a career high 10 assists and came up with three steals. Red shirtFreshman center Corrina Turner scored nine points and hauled in a career high 16 rebounds.Her previous high was 15 against North Carolina in Nov. of 2000.
ODU led by only two, 45-43 at halftime, and Hofstra's Staceyann Claxton tied the gamewith the first basket of the second half. ODU then went on a 26-5 run to take a 71-50lead with 9:34 left in the game. In that stretch Monique Coker, Okiesha Howard andMyriah Spence (Espanola, NM.) each scored four points.
ODU shot a blistering .609 (39-64) from the floor and outrebounded Hofstra, 47-24.Hofstra shot .349 (22-63) from the floor.
The 99 points is the most for the Lady Monarchs since the 108-46 win over VCU last year.
Old Dominion returns home for two games next weekend against Drexel on Friday, Feb. 21and George Mason on Feb. 23 in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
