STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Kelly Mazzante scored a season-high 38 points asNo. 13 Penn State beat Old Dominion 81-74 Tuesday night.
Tanisha Wright added 16 points and Jess Brungo 12 for Penn State (15-4),which led by 21 with 15:42 left and withstood a 25-9 Old Dominion run to holdon.
Kim Giddens had a season-high 28 points to lead the Lady Monarchs (8-6), whowere 17-for-22 from the floor in the second half and shot nearly 61 percent forthe game.
Giddens, who came in averaging 5.9 points per game, hit a layup with 15:16remaining and scored 10 points during the run that brought Old Dominion to69-64 with 7:17 left. But the Lady Monarchs were unable to close the gap anyfurther.
Shareese Grant scored 14 points for Old Dominion, while Okeisha Howard added11 and Max Nhassengo 10.
Mazzante scored 26 points in the first half of her 20th career 30-pointgame, and finished with her highest total of the season. She was 12-for-12 fromthe free-throw line, one shy of the school's single-game record.
With 9:22 left in the first half and the score tied at 20, the Lady Lionswent on an 18-4 run behind 13 points from Mazzante. They stretched theadvantage to 52-35 by halftime.
