Monarchs Topple Towson, 69-48

Towson, Md.- Senior guard Okeisha Howard scored a game high 18 points to lead Old Dominion (8-5, 5-0) to its 200th Colonial Athletic Association victory, a 69-48 win over Towson University (1-13, 0-5), on Sunday afternoon at the Towson Center.

With the win, the Lady Monarchs are now 168-7 in regular CAA season play, and 32-0 in conference tournament games. Out of its last 146 CAA games, Old Dominion has won 145 of them.

During the first half, the Lady Monarch's scored in the first eleven seconds as sophomore guard Shareese Grant nailed the first of eight field goals, and gave Old Dominion a lead they would never relinquish. The Monarchs outshot the Tigers 56 per cent to 40 per cent in the first half, and owned a 32-24 lead at the half. Foir the game, ODU shot a seasonal high 58.3 per cent while holding Towson to 30.5 per cent shooting.

Old Dominion opened the second half by holding the Tigers scoreless for the first 5:41, while riding a 12-0 run. Grant led the Monarchs in scoring during the second half as she went five-for-six from the floor.

Grant added a total of 17 points for the Lady Monarchs, while senior forward Kim Giddens led ODU with a game high eight rebounds, along with eight points and three blocked shots.

The Tigers were led by senior forward Sandi Haefner and sophomore forward Kelli Talbot who each contributed 13 points. Haefner, who matched her seasonal career high, also grabbed a career high-eight rebounds.
