Monarchs Fall 4-0 to Coastal Carolina in Stihl Competition

The Old Dominion men's soccer team was defeated by Tournament Champion Coastal Carolina on Sunday in the final day of the 27th annual Stihl Soccer Classic. In the day's first match, runner-up William and Mary won 4-0 over Georgia State.

The Chanticleers jumped out to 3-0 lead before halftime and never looked back. Mike Littlefield scored the first two Coastal goals and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for his four-goal effort. Mubarike Chisoni added a goal along with Joseph Ngwenya, his third of the weekend. Goalkeepers Aaron Sanders and Andrew Paxton combined for three saves and the shutout.

The Monarchs fired off 13 shots with all but three coming in the second half. John Connelly (Rockville, MD) made five saves in goal for Old Dominion (2-2/0-0).

In the first game William and Mary avenged a 4-2 defeat by Coastal Carolina on Friday by topping Georgia State 4-0. Four different members of the Tribe scored including Phillip Hucles who is credited with the game-winner. Hucles took a cross-field pass from Chris Burgess and put in a diving header just 12 minutes in. Goalies Trevor Upton and Tim Kassel kept the Panthers off the board making three saves. Will Chaple made 10 saves of his own trying to keep Georgia State in the game.
