HAMPTON, VA. - Michael Purvis scored 12 of his game high 20 points in the second half to lead thePirates of Hampton University to a 77-70 victory over Old Dominion Wednesday night atthe HU Convocation Center. HU is now 3-0, while the Monarchs fall to 1-3.

The Pirates held a 35-31 lead at halftime as Purvis and Jeff Granger each scored eightpoints. In the second half, the Pirates held ODU to .37 percent shooting (12-37), whilehitting 49 percent (13-27) themselves. Five HU players scored in double figures. DavidJohnson scored 14, Barry Hairston 13, Devin Green 11 and Jeff Granger had 10.

Four Monarchs scored in double figures led by Senior Rasheed Wright (Greensboro, NC.) with 18 points. Ricardo Marsh (Mebane, NC.) added 14 points with nine rebounds, freshmanguard Isaiah Hunter (Charlotte, NC.) scored 13 as did sophomore John Waller (Richmond, VA.). Waller was making his first start of the season.

ODU was without the services of T.J. Waldon (Lakeland, FL.) and Troy Nance (VA. Beach, VA.). Waldon has been bothered by a foot injury which sidelined him all last year andNance got sick prior to game-time. Waldon is day-to-day, and Nance should be back forSaturday's game with East Carolina.

ODU's game with ECU is at 7 p.m. Saturday night in the Ted Constant Convocation Centerand will be televised in the Hampton Roads area on Cox channel
