The Old Dominion men's soccer team close out the regular season by losing to William and Mary 2-0 on Saturday night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. Carlos Garcia and Andreas Nydal tallied a goal and an assist each for the Tribe.
With the loss ODU moves to 6-2-1 in the conference and 9-7-1 overall while William and Mary improves to 7-1-1 and 12-6-1. Garcia broke a scoreless game at 31:34 with a rocket past ODU's goalie Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC) off a pass from Nydal. Garcia then returned the favor just three minutes into the second period as Nydal took a Garcia feed and lobbed a shot over the charging Cameron for the insurance goal.
Trevor Upton made three saves to earn the shutout as Cameron made seven stops for the Monarchs. The Tribe outshot ODU 19-10 and held a 6-3 corner advantage. They move into first with the victory and earn a first round bye in the tournament.
Both teams will have to wait for the result of Sunday's VCU/Delaware matchup to decide their seeding in the CAA tournament. A Ram loss would give ODU a first round bye and William and Mary the number one seed. A Ram win would mean that ODU, as the number three seed, will host the number six seed in a first round game on Tuesday at the ODU Soccer Stadium, and William and Mary would have the second seed.
