NORFOLK, VA -- The #23 Old Dominion Lady Monarch basketball team will face Team Concept in an exhibition game tonight at the new Ted Constant Convocation with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The Team Concept roster features six WNBA players including LaTonya Johnson of Utah, LaTonya Washington of Washington, Takeisha Lewis of Seattle, Dominique Canty of Detriot, and Lisa Burras and LaQuanda Barksdale of Portland.
Barksdale, a graduate of North Carolina, was 11-of-18 from the floor with a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds in a 91-77 Tar Heel victory over the Lady Monarchs in Chapel Hill in November of 2000.
Other members of the Team Concept roster include Ericka Haney, a member of Notre Dame's 2001 NCAA Championship squad, Kristeena Alexandra (George Washington), Ozlem Piroglu (Minnesota) and Tomeka Brown (Ohio State).
Tonight's game will be the first of two preseason exhibitions for the Lady Monarchs. Old Dominion's other preseason match-up will be next Wednesday against Basketball Travelers with a 7:00 p.m. tip.
The Lady Monarchs took to the court last week in their first showing of the 2002-03 season in the annual Blue and White Scrimmage. Senior guard and CAA Preseason Player of the Year Okeisha Howard (Va. Beach, VA) scored 22 points, dished out eight assists and came up with three steals to lead the Blue squad to a 53-41 victory over the White. Freshman Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie, FL) led the white squad with 17 points, five steals and six rebounds. Redshirt freshman center Corrina Turner, who appeared on the floor in uniform for the first time in nearly two years, hauled in seven rebounds and scored six points for the white squad. Preseason First Team All-CAA member Monique Coker scored nine points, hauled in down seven rebounds and handed out five assists for the Blue team.
