Top Ranked ODU Women Sailors Win ACC Regatta

The Old Dominion women's sailing team, ranked #1 in the nation, finished first in the Atlantic Coast Championship held this weekend at Connecticut College. In other sailing action, the #17 coed squad took ninth in the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships. Both events included the best competition from up and down the Atlantic Coast.

The Lady Monarchs combined for 101 points, finishing first in the both the A and B divisions to earn the victory. Brown Universtiy led after the first day of sailing, but lost their to lead to ODU and ended up losing by 20 points. Yale came in third with 180 overall points for the regatta. Twenty six races were held in the rainy conditions with 16 teams competing.

The coed team finished ninth at the Dinghy Championships at the US Coast Guard Academy with 290 total points. Sixteen teams competed in the event and St. Mary's College took the win with 148 points. Harvard and USMMA rounded out the top three. The A division for ODU took eighth, while the B squad took 14th.

Both teams conclude the fall season next weekend at the annual MAISA-SAISA regatta held in Charleston, SC.
