After dropping only their second Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game in three seasons last Sunday at Towson, Old Dominion comes back home this weekend for more conference action as they host #24 Hofstra and Drexel. ODU will play Hofstra on Friday and Drexel on Saturday, both games start at 7:00 p.m.
The Monarchs come in with two straight defeats having also lost to Virginia on Wednesday, 3-2. Their record now stands at 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the CAA. The loss to Towson pushed them into a tie atop the conference with #15 Virginia Commonwealth who has also won three league games. VCU defeated both Drexel and Hofstra last weekend to improve their CAA record to 3-0.
Hofstra (9-3-1/2-2-0) is ranked #24 in the nation after falling a spot when they lost to VCU. ODU is 1-4 against ranked opponents, not including a 4-0 loss to now ranked Coastal Carolina, who is tied with VCU at #15. The Pride have met the Monarchs on three previous occasions. Both squads are 1-1-1 as Hofstra won last year, 3-2.
Drexel (8-5-1/2-1-1) is third in the conference with seven points and is facing the Monarchs for only the second time. ODU scored six goals on the Dragons back in 1993 in a commanding 6-1 victory. They are currently third in the league in scoring with 5.21 points per game.
The Monarchs announced this week the addition of Pambos Demetriades (Nicosia, Cyprus) to the roster. Demetriades hails from Cyprus where he was a prominent member of their U18 National Team and won two championships with his Omonia Circuit Club.
