#22 JMU Defeats Monarchs, 5-0

NORFOLK, VA. - The 22nd ranked Dukes of James Madison defeated OldDominion, 5-0 behind shutout pitching headed by lefthander Dan Meyer Saturdayevening in a CAA American Division contest. JMU is now 41-11 overall and 15-4in the CAA, while ODU is 25-27 overall and 7-12 in the CAA.

Meyer held the Monarchs hitless until Ryan Harvey (Riverside, CA.) tripled with one out in the sixth inning. Prior to that, Meyer retired ODU down in order, allowing only a walk to Mike Croley in the second and hitting Jesse Schoendienst in the third.Croley was erased by a double play and Schoendienst was caught trying to steal.Meyer fanned seven, walked one with only one hit through seven innings of work.He is now 8-2 on the season.

Eddie Kim, the CAA's leader in RBI's and hitting, had two hits, including a run scoring double which brought home Brent Metheny in the first inning. Nathan Doyle's groundout in the second plated Alan Lindsey.

In the fifth inning, Metheny's two-out single scored Doyle and Travis Ebaughto give JMU a 4-0 lead. The Dukes added another run in the ninth on Kurt Isenberg'ssacrifice fly, scoring Dustin Bowman.

ODU threatened in the eighth after Brandon Lenoir (Ocala, FL.) and Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) singled with one out, but Mike Trussell came in for Brandon Cornwell and fanned the next two batters to get out of trouble..The third and final game of the three-game series is Sunday at 2 p.m. It willbe the final home game for ODU seniors Jonathan Tinkham(Chesapeake, Va., Jared Musolf and Ken Brumfield (Danville, VA.).
