Duke Defeats ODU in Ten Innings, 6-5

NORFOLK, VA. -Kevin Kelly's two-out single in the top of the tenth inning plated Brian Patrick with the go ahead run as Duke University Blue Devils defeatedthe Monarchs of Old Dominion University Wednesday night, 6-5. Duke improves to22-30, while ODU drops to 24-26.

With the Monarchs leading, 5-4 Duke tied the game in the top of the ninthas Brian Patrick led off the inning with a double. He later scored on Tim Layden's single. In the tenth inning, Patrick led off with a triple and would score the winning run on Kelly's hit.

Patrick had three hits, scored three times and had two runs batted in, which includes a two-run homer in the third inning. Larry Broadway had two hits, including a solo homerun in the first inning for the Blue Devils. Duke starter Ryan Sember game up five runs in the first three innings, then settled down and pitched eight innings. Colin Begley picked up his first win of the season.

ODU was led by Ryan Harvey (Riverside, CA.)with two hits and two runs batted in. He singled home Jess Schoendienst (Belcamp, Md.) and Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) in the third inning. Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, Pa.), John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.), the CAA Player of the Week and Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) each drove in a run for the Monarchs.Jared Musolf led ODUwith three hits on the evening.

The Monarchs return to action Friday night when they host James Madisonin the final three-game CAA series of the season, beginning at 7 p.m. Duke hostsWake Forest this weekend.
