NORFOLK, VA. - Old Dominion University junior catcher John Oehler(Audubon, NJ.) was named CAA Player of the Week. Oehler batted .800 (8-10on the weekend with three homers, a double, six runs scored and seven runs battedin.
Oehler tied a Monarchs' record with three homers in Sunday's CAA gameat Towson in which ODU won, 10-6. He went 5-for-5 with five runs scored and fiveRBI. Oehler is second on the team in hitting at .318 and is hitting.423 in 17 CAAgames. He leads the league in sacrifice hits with ten.
Only three other Monarchs have ever hit three home runs in a game. They areNick Boothe ('85) against UNC Charlotte i 1985; Matt Quatraro ('96) at C.W. Postin 1994, and Jeff Eure ('01) against N.C. State in 1998.
ODU plays at Liberty Tuesday night, then hosts Duke Wednesday nightat 7 p.m., before closing out the season with a three-game home CAA series with 22ndranked James Madison, beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.
