ODU's Berthieu and Larry Earn All-State Top Honors

Norfolk, VA-Old Dominion senior forward Lucienne Berthieu and head coach Wendy Larry have been named the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, in voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Berthieu, a native of Rennes, France, averaged 14.6 ppg and 7.6 rebounds in 34 games while leading the Lady Monarchs to their eleventh straight Colonial Athletic Association crown and a berth in the NCAA Elite Eight. Berthieu captured her third CAA Player of the Year award this season and earns her second VaSID Player of the Year award after winning it in 1999-2000.

ODU head coach Wendy Larry enjoyed another solid year, picking up her sixth CAA Coach of the Year honor while guiding her team to a 28-6 record. In addition, Larry picked up her 400th career win during the regular season and 350th with ODU. Seeded seventh this year in the NCAA tournament, her team defeated Georgia and Purdue on the road and eliminated Kansas State in the round of sixteen before bowing out to eventual champ Connecticut in the Elite Eight.

Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia each placed two players on the first team. VCU forward Kristine Austgulen and guard Rochelle Luckett earned spots along with Cavalier forward Brandi Teamer and guard Telisha Quarles.

Old Dominion, Richmond, Virginia Tech, Norfolk State and Hampton are each represented with one player on the second team.
